The FAYEssociation Contact Life in Fortified Castles Restorations Update Good news ! The addicts' page

A little of pragmatism...

A fortified castle is a place you dream of but it does not make you forget a much less poetic reality: the restoration costs money... A lot of money. Naturally the members of the FAYEssociation are going to wet their shirt and to learn how to raise up stone walls. But a certain amount of work has to be done, even just to protect the what remains, to secure the site and to make it appropriate for the visits and for the tourism.

The owners asked for estimations and retained the Barrataud company of Mézel (Auvergne) in agreement with the architect of the Buildings of France in Puy de Dôme.

We deliver you below the amount of the estimations.

A stair in the donjon

The least that we can say is that this donjon fascinates. But that it is frustrating not to be able to enter it (unless at the price of some dangerous acrobatics and just for the first level)! What a point of view we would have on top of it !
We asked for an estimate for the following works:

We could open then widely the donjon to the paying visit by proposing exhibitions on each of three grounds.
To do so, it is necessary for us to gather a 21800€ sum (+/-21500$) which includes the stairs, the grounds and the doors and windows. With 7300 guests in 3 € each, the business is becomes profitable and allows to reinvest in the other parts of the castle. It is not unbelievable when one knows that the only evocation of the rally 2002 in local newspapers attracted several dozens of persons near the ruins in a few days.

The chapel

The chapel is the first main project of the owners. There the estimate amount if of 75000€ but it understands the restoration of one of both adjacent walls.
The works on the chapel itself are the following ones : To facilitate the works, the association financed thanks to the Rally 2002 the release of stony masses of fallen rocks near the walls what will allow to settle immediately the scaffoldings.
Once this part of the castle is redone, one can guarantee that it will take quite other relief!
